BOSTON -- A Boston University student has come out of a medically induced coma more than two weeks after a car crash that killed three college classmates in New Zealand.
Meg Theriault was put in a coma after brain surgery that followed a minivan crash in which three additional students were injured on May 12.
The 21-year-old Theriault suffered a serious head injury, a broken right arm and grazes over her body.
Waikato Hospital says Theriault was awake Wednesday and spoke her first words since the accident.
The hospital says some of the first words spoken by the college junior were: "I want my mummy." Later, she told her father she loved him.
Her mother thanked everyone in the United States who has donated money and has been praying for Theriault.
